This course is designed to provide students with an overview of the most important geographical, political, social, economic and cultural developments of modern Germany. Authentic texts and resources from the media (video, internet and textual) will serve as the basis for class discussions. Using selected case studies, students will analyse a range of issues central to contemporary Germany. At least one field trip is planned and when available, guest speakers from industry, politics and cultural organizations will be invited to share their experiences and engage with students. Assessment: one presentation on a city or region of Germany and one 90-minute written final examination
